Ingredients

  • 8 oz sharp cheddar cheese, freshly shredded

  • 4 tbsp cold unsalted butter, cubed

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • ¾ tsp salt

  • ¼ tsp garlic powder

  • ¼ tsp onion powder

  • 2 tbsp cold water

  • Flaky salt, optional

Directions

  • Add cheddar, butter, flour, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder to a food processor. Pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Add the cold water and pulse again just until a dough forms.
  • Shape the dough into a disk, wrap, and chill for 20 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Roll the dough to about ¼-inch thick.
  • Cut into squares for Cheez-Its or use a mini fish-shaped cutter for Goldfish.
  • Use a toothpick to make an eye in each Goldfish and a hole in the center of each Cheez-It. This allows steam to escape and helps prevent them from puffing too much.
  • Arrange about ½ inch apart on the prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle with flaky salt if desired.
  • Bake for 11–13 minutes, until golden and crispy.
