8 oz sharp cheddar cheese, freshly shredded
4 tbsp cold unsalted butter, cubed
1 cup all-purpose flour
¾ tsp salt
¼ tsp garlic powder
¼ tsp onion powder
2 tbsp cold water
Flaky salt, optional
Directions
- Add cheddar, butter, flour, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder to a food processor. Pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add the cold water and pulse again just until a dough forms.
- Shape the dough into a disk, wrap, and chill for 20 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll the dough to about ¼-inch thick.
- Cut into squares for Cheez-Its or use a mini fish-shaped cutter for Goldfish.
- Use a toothpick to make an eye in each Goldfish and a hole in the center of each Cheez-It. This allows steam to escape and helps prevent them from puffing too much.
- Arrange about ½ inch apart on the prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle with flaky salt if desired.
- Bake for 11–13 minutes, until golden and crispy.
